![]() The whole idea is that the game isn’t in on the joke. I thought it’d look pretty ridiculous if these hapless flailing things which can’t even walk around were forced to fight and look fierce like characters out of Street Fighter or something. One day two of them were set up pretty close together, and Josh said, “Look daddy, they’re fighting!” and that was it. ![]() My little boys had always been obsessed with the “windy waver men” they saw outside car yards on the side of the road. What was the inspiration behind the game? Never was Richard’s point here more poignant than the time the Hojo team filmed Lee and I versing each other… On the other hand, the sorts of things we’ve heard players yell at each other while playing Inflatality is a very different story □ Kids play fight from a very early age anyway, at least in Inflatality it’ll never involve blood or weapons or anything parents would feel awkward explaining to their kids. Yeah, it’s probably the only fighting game I can think of that IS ok for children. We want it to become the ultimate couch versus party fighter for PCs and consoles.Ĭonsidering that it’s a fighting game that doesn’t come across as violent, do you think it will be a good game for children? We’ll also be building loads more signature moves into the game for players to choose from. But we’re building more environments where wavers gather to duel – like the boat show, the airport, a bogan wedding, etc. It’s still relativity early days for Inflatality, what are some of the features you’ll be including in the near future?Īt the moment there’s only one battle arena – the used car yard. There are headshots, spanking and all kinds of bizarre ways the wavers can get inappropriately twisted up together. It’s surprising how dynamic, tactical and plain ridiculous the combat gets with really simple controls. When the charge bar is full, you unleash an epic signature move you’ll need to come to PAX to see! You use one analogue stick to twist and turn your waver around, dodge or lunge towards your opponent and the other analogue stick to flail your arms for attacks and unleashing savage rubbery combos.Įach waver has a health bar and a charge bar they can fill by performing combos or pulling off trick shots. How does the gameplay work and what are some of the fun moves you can pull on your opponent?įirst you get to create your very own battle waver, down to the eyes, mouths, colours and even tattoos – then it’s time to fight. The idea is that in every car yard across the world, as soon as no-one’s looking, those wavers come to life, turn feral and fight to the death in brutal combat. Inflatality is a derpy physics fighter for two players, featuring adorable inflatable wavers beating the crap out of each other. For those not in the know, what’s it all about? Inflatality is probably the most fun fighting game I’ve ever played. I had the pleasure of interviewing Co-Found of Hojo, Richard Salter about this truly insane game, but before diving into that, you really should check out the gameplay footage so you can understand why we’re losing our minds over it… We were instantly addicted and made it our personal mission to tell everyone we have ever met about it. However, if you are both amused and intrigued by what I just said, then I present Inflatality by Hojo Studio and Deepforge.īoth myself and Lee discovered this insanely fun fighting game at Beer and Pixels in Sydney a few months back. If the terms “inflatable fighters”, “crotch punch” and “fumblecore” don’t appeal to you, then I’m afraid that we are very different people. I’m incredibly excited to be kicking off our PAX Rising interviews with a game that is as hilarious as it is spectacular. Plus those indies really know how to drink. ![]() The atmosphere is always welcoming, and inclusivity is something I’m a big fan of. Supporting the local indie industry is something that’s close to my heart and with over 70 exhibitors this year there are going to be an abundance of unique and incredible games for punters to indulge in. PAX Rising is one of my favourite aspects of the entire three day convention. ![]()
